Challenge: Disconnect for a few full days over the holidays

Christmas_1

Over the last two years, I’ve noticed a curious trend on this blog: lots of people visit this site throughout the year, but between Christmas and New Years it’s an absolute ghost town. Productivity isn’t a priority during the holidays, and that’s a good thing! After a big year, not giving a crap about productivity feels amazing.

I usually don’t post too many challenges on this blog, but I wanted to make one to you here (in case you don’t already do this). This holiday, I challenge you to take a few days to completely disconnect from your work. Even if you’re the biggest productivity geek on the planet, set aside a handful of days to not care about how much you accomplish. Set up an email autoresponder, completely turn off your work phone, hide your work laptop in another room, and if you dare, shut your personal devices off for a couple of days.

Disconnecting will stimulate your brain less, and you may resist it at first, but it will let you soak in the holidays and the people around you. After you overcome the initial resistance, it feels incredible.

I’m going to do the same—or at least as much as possible before my book drops on January 5th, and while I continue piecing together a few thoughts from my New Year’s resolutions experiment :-)

See you after the jump! Regardless of what you celebrate, I wish you a Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, Happy Kwanzaa, Happy New Year, and Happy Everything Else!

Enjoy your holiday!
